RockSTARs: Across the Spectrum

“The most interesting people you’ll find are ones that don’t fit into your average cardboard box. They’ll make what they need, they’ll make their own boxes.”

                                                                                                        - Dr. Temple Grandin

Who are RockSTARs?

In June 2017, we started our RockSTAR Across the Spectrum program which recognizes a different child and their family’s story each month on social media. This program has provided the opportunity to showcase the child and the family, and not the diagnosis. It has created a platform for the public to get to know these children and learn about all the wonderful individual qualities they possess! It has also given family’s an opportunity to tell their personal journey with autism. As we all know, not one is alike.

We celebrate EVERYTHING!

Another focus of the RockSTAR program is celebrating and encouraging their interests and enthusiasm as we believe that empowering their specific interests can lead to future jobs and careers. Every featured child will receive a RockSTAR package fit to their specific interest and a professional photo shoot with Whigham Images!

“Although people with autism look like other people physically, we are in fact very different…

We are more like travelers from the distant, distant past. And if, by our being here, we could help the people

of the world remember what truly matters for the Earth, that might give us quiet pleasure,”

                                                                                                                                - Naoki Higashida, The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen Year Old Boy with Autism

The Lunsford Family

"We are very familiar with the worry and uncertainty that face all parents, especially ones that have children with a disability. But we also laugh every day. When he takes something very literally and I say, “Dude! You’re so literal!” He usually responds with “No I’m not, I’m Waylon!”'

- Billy Lunsford

The Byrd Family

"As my children have grown, the “autism” term has taken a backseat. We rarely mention it. Not because we don’t care or we deny its existence, but because it doesn’t define who Helon, Phillip and Ben are as individuals. Autism is simply one small piece of my amazing beautiful children. They can do anything they want; they just need to work a little harder to overcome the challenges autism presents in achieving their goal."

- Jennifer Byrd

The Wells Family

"She is an absolute trooper and is the strongest person I know, probably because she has never known what it is to not have to fight each and every day. She is our hero and she was given to us exactly the way she was supposed to be."

- Laura Wells
